At the Pesticides in Sustainable Agriculture event (see previous entries below), we spoke to Pieter de Pous of theEuropean Environmental Bureau (EEB), which is a federation of 140+ environmental organisations based all over Europe. We asked for his take on the day’s event from the perspective of his organisation. Although Pieter does not strictly work on pesticides (the EEB looks at the health and biodevierstity of natural resources more broadly), he makes some very interesting points on the issue of productivity expectations vs. demands to maintain natural biodiversity, stressing that the panic following the food crisis should not overshadow the need to maintain the earth’s resource base, especially soil and water.
